Rob designed brushes that replicated a gouache style of painting

We were asked by Coombe Farm Organic, here in Somerset, to produce a memorable image that represents their product line,  at the same time engaging their client base and encourage social media sharing. The guys/gals at Coombe Farm had a good idea of what they wanted – we interpreted their vision producing scamps, and 3D visuals.

We found illustration would suit this project well, enabling us to create ‘any’ image, we were not restricted by reference material, thats the beauty of illustration. Rob Loxston, Creative Director and Founder here at Rocketbox – took on the project and produced pencil sketches for client sign-off, based on the breeds of animals they use at Coombe – “I wanted to achieve a painterly quality – not computer generated” – We found a good solution was using Photoshop and a Wacom tablet – Rob designed brushes that replicated a gouache style of painting. Images were finally reproduced on aluminium laminate at approx 2.5 metres high and 6metres long!

Rather than base the illustration on one particular view, we developed a ‘conceptual landscape’ that captured the essence of the region and gave a glimpse of what could be found by visiting the area. Through various revisions and additions, a final outline illustration was reached into which we could add a depth of colour that took its hues and vibrancy from the natural landscape.
